4 Days/3 Nights Optional Trip to Petra - $1,775 per person/double occupancy
$150 Non-Refundable Deposit per person Saves Your Spot
Petra originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit systems, Petra is also called the "Rose City" because of the color of the sandstone from which it is carved. The city is one of the New Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area around Petra has been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC, and was settled by the Nabataeans, a nomadic Arab people, in the 4th century BC. Petra would later become the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom in the second century BC. The Nabataeans invested in Petra's proximity to the incense trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub, which gained them considerable revenue. Unlike their enemies, the Nabataeans were accustomed to living in the barren deserts and thus were able to defend their kingdom. They were particularly skillful in agriculture, stone carving, and rainwater harvesting.
We will also visit Timna Park. The park is located about 25 km (about 17 miles) north of Eilat in Israel’s Negev Desert. One of the largest attractions in the south of Israel the park sits in a beautifully majestic desert setting. It has amazing history and geology and contains a model of the Desert Tabernacle . This meticulously crafted model replicates the original sanctuary in full detail, from its structure to the sacred artifacts within, including the altar, the copper laver, the table of showbread, the menorah, the Ark of the Covenant, and the priestly garments. Experience a vivid piece of biblical history brought to life in the desert.
Tel Beer Sheba National Park is also on the itinerary. The area in which the forefathers of the Jewish nation (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) lived and worked, is an important biblical tel – one of three from the days of the Bible that UNESCO has included in its list of world heritage sites. Of more than 200 Tels in Israel, Megiddo, Hazor and Beer Sheba are representative of those that contain substantial remains of cities with biblical connections. Today's modern Beersheba is the capital city of the Negev Desert and is home to the Ben Gurion University.
